If there’s one thing I dread, it’s buying gifts for people. It’s not that I don’t value their friendship, but rather that I have no clue what to buy them. That may sound like I’m a lousy friend, but in reality, its perfectly true. They have whatever they want. So the question is, What can I buy them? This is where GiftSmart.lk comes in.
Sometime back the very same question plagued Creative Solutions (CSL) and now they’ve found a solution. Known to be one of Sri Lanka’s leading software development companies, CSL deals with a lot of company-developed products and also helps integrate their own custom solutions with existing software systems.
Enter GiftSmart.lk. Rather than put pressure on the person giving the gift, it rather shifts roles so that it’s the recipient who has the power to choose what he/she wants to buy.
How does it work? Well, it’s quite simple actually. You can log into the GiftSmart website by clicking here and obtain a GiftSmart Card. The value of this card spans from around LKR2000 all the way upto LKR50000 (if you’re feeling really generous). Since it is an online transaction, there are no boundaries and both locals and those residing abroad can send gifts anywhere in Sri Lanka.
Speaking of which, GiftSmart cards can be sent either via email or print. Once the gift is received, it’s just a matter of converting the card into a gift voucher which can be redeemed for a pool of stores by logging into the GIftSmart website. Here’s the fun part. As explained above, the recipient has the freedom of choice to select which store/s he/she wants to redeem and receive gift vouchers from. This makes your job a lot easier as you don’t have to worry about buying something that your friend may already have or something that they wouldn’t be interested in.
Did we also mention that the cards are customizable? Yes, GiftSmart.lk actually lets you design each card depending on the occasion and even attach a personal note to make it just that much more memorable. Perfect to get your poetry skills or bad jokes in shape (the latter for me).
Overall, I found the concept novel and interesting but mostly, a relief. Never more will I have to scratch my head over what I should buy “X” for their birthday or “Y” for their anniversary. However, despite the fact that you can add a personal note to the voucher, I also find it a tad on the impersonal side if you don’t know what your loved ones would like. As with anything new, there are pros and there are cons. But in terms of creativity we give CSL a big thumbs up.
