For the first time ever, John Keells Holdings PLC, will be launching the inaugural John Keells X disruptive innovation challenge. This challenge is open for any person or team to create a disruptive business model for a monetary reward.
Basically, once selected, you will compete for a prize after going through the program of events in the Challenge. Along the way you will refine and develop a Minimum Viable Product or a fully-fledged business.
John Keells X will be accepting applications for the 2016 cycle from 1 July 2016. The actual event will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka from July–October 2016 and applications are open to the public, including employees of the John Keells Group.
With a focus on disruptive innovations related to Consumer Foods & Retail / Financial Services / Information Technology / Leisure / Property / Transportation and Plantation Services, applicants are open to develop anything (although preferably linked to an existing business interest of the John Keells Group).
After the application deadline, all applications will be screened and shortlisted applicants will be invited to continue through to the next stage. These shortlisted applicants would then take part in the Open Day followed by the development window.
The final part of the programme would be the final Demo Day where teams would pitch their final products or concepts to a panel of judges.
A reward of Rs. 2,000,000/= would be given to the winner and Rs 1,000,000/= for 2nd place. In addition, these individuals would also receive further funding for commercial ventures.

Ballerina is a general purpose, concurrent and strongly typed programming language with both textual and graphical syntaxes, optimized for use cases on microservices. All we want you to do is pick a challenging scenario which you think Ballerina can solve, learn Ballerina, work with the Ballerina team to create a solution and give us your feedback on what went well and what didn’t. And of course, do this all in 12 hours.
