Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, today announced that anyone using an Airtel mobile phone in Sri Lanka is now able to use their mobile phone to call any Skype user anywhere in the world.

Available on any handset, customers have only to send an SMS to 689 with the Skype ID of the person to be contacted. Customers will then be sent a return message with a 10 digit Skype dialing ID Code which can then be stored along with the contacts’ usual details and used thereafter to contact the person when they are online. At a fixed rate of Rs. 1.50+ IDD tax per minute, irrespective of the country called, this new service is a one-stop-shop for convenience and savings for Airtel customers in Sri Lanka when making international calls from their mobile phone.

Suren Goonewardene, CEO – Sri Lanka, Bharti Airtel, commenting on the launch of the service said, “While our customers enjoy the best in class value on international calling tariffs in Sri Lanka, we appreciate that people are apprehensive about using their mobiles to call internationally.  This unprecedented value offering allays these fears and liberates our customers from their home computer to enable them to use their Airtel mobile phones to call their contacts regardless of where in the world they may be, and what device they are using.”
