It’s that time of the year again. While most people are getting ready for the holiday festive season, a group of individuals are planning to host something that is quite interesting. This is Play Expo.
Simply put, Play Expo is Sri Lanka’s first Digital Entertainment and Technology exhibition. Organized by Gamer.LK, and powered by Dialog Gaming, Play Expo is scheduled to be held from the 8th to the 10th of December 2017 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Center.
The goal of Play Expo is to showcase the latest technology and experiences available for digital entertainment enthusiasts. So if you’re interested in audio, video, music, movies, gaming and their related technologies, then this is the place for you.
Play Expo will have technology and entertainment brands from around the world for attendees to come and get hands-on time with some of their favorite products. Apart from the main exhibition itself, Play Expo will also play host to two other very important events: SLCG 2017 and the Colombo Comic Expo.
If you’re a gamer in Sri Lanka or even abroad, you would definitely have heard about the Sri Lanka Cyber Games. Ever since the first SLCG in 2008, the event has grown to attract over 200,000 visitors over the span of its 3-day duration. This year marks a memorable moment for SLCG as it is the 10th consecutive championship being held this year.
Bringing together cyber-athletes and competitive gamers both old and new from across Sri Lanka, SLCG has become the battleground to settle eSports clan rivalries and prove once and for all who the better gamer is. The winning team or clan also gets to walk away with the SLCG Championship trophy.
This is something that is coveted amongst those in the gaming scene in Sri Lanka. Attracting over 3,000 participants across its 11+ game titles, winning at SLCG pretty much guarantees that you a slot in the Sri Lankan eSports hall of fame, establishing that you are the best in Sri Lanka.
With 6 Major clans taking part in SLCG 2017, you are guaranteed to have some nail biting action on each of the three days of SLCG. With live commentary and large screens to show you how your favorite team or player is performing, you can cheer them on as well.
Among the well-known titles at SLCG are Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends and Overwatch. Over on the single player area, players can take their pick from Injustice 2, FIFA 17, Project Cars and Tekken 7 as official titles.
In addition, newer titles such as PUBG (Player Unknown’s BattleGround) and Rainbow 6 will also make an appearance as promotional titles. Alongside these would be Ingress, Clash Royale and Rider Rush by Honda being played as the mobile game titles at SLCG 2017.
If you think you have what it takes to battle it out at SLCG 2017, you can head over here and register for your preferred game.
Dedicated to comic fans and artists, Colombo Comic Expo will feature a schedule of events showcasing Sri Lankan art, film, cosplay and geek culture throughout the 3 days of Play Expo.
The Colombo Comic Expo will feature panel discussions with a number of well-known personalities. These would be from the movie and music industry, game developers and comic artists. In addition, The Colombo Comic Expo would also host Sri Lanka’s largest Cosplay competition, complete with a ramp walk to crown Sri Lanka’s best cosplayers.
If you are looking to take part, all you need to do is to register here and then dress up as your favorite character. You can then go through Sri Lankan comic art, swap, buy and sell geek comics, toys, miniature figures and other collectibles at the vendor stalls, etc. Vendors and exhibitors can register here. If you’re an artist looking to showcase your talent, you can also request a table to display your artwork by clicking here.
Overall, Play Expo looks to be quite an interesting event. If you see us, come on over and say Hi. In case you can’t make it, stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter as we will be bringing you the action, as and when it happens.
