From the venerable 8-bit games such as Mario and Duck Hunt, to some of the most graphically advanced games such as the upcoming Anthem by Bioware and the new Assassins Creed, the gaming industry is certainly booming. If you take multiplayer gaming, that number increases further. Whoever said that gaming isn’t a profitable business might just want to take read this. For example, in 2016, the gaming industry worldwide was worth USD 91 Billion in revenues.
It’s not so much the game developers but gamers themselves who stand to profit from gaming. If you’re and eSports fan, then you would know about the professional teams that are actually sponsored by some of the biggest tech brands in the world to represent them at eSports Tournaments. These tournaments involve games such as Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends and the latest FPS to sweep the nation; Overwatch.
With all this in mind, Asus has big plans. You’ve probably heard of Asus ROG. If you haven’t, the Asus ROG or Republic of Gamers is essentially a sub-brand of ASUS related to the development of gaming hardware and software. This includes PC hardware such as Motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktops, monitors, audio equipment, routers, and peripherals such as keyboards, mice and headsets. They also participate in and sponsors major international gaming events.
The Asus ROG Masters is one such eSports tournament. Aimed at aspiring gamers worldwide, the ROG Masters is now in its second year and has grown into a global phenomenon after its first year in Asia and Oceania. The Grand Finals of ROG Masters 2017 will take place in November, with USD $500,000 to play for and the world watching.
Asus Sri Lanka announced the launch of Asus ROG Masters Sri Lanka 2017; a country qualifier tournament of the ROG Masters global tournament. This means that all Sri Lankan gamers stand a chance to live their ultimate eSports dream as they battle it out for a shot at the prize money and a chance to qualify for the regional and global tournaments; to be held later on this year.
Commencing in June, teams from all over the country will compete in a dual series of two of the most popular game that also have the largest player base which is Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, more commonly referred to as CS:GO. These tournaments at both preliminary and final rounds to unleash the best local talent. The winners will qualify to play in the regional tournament which will be held in Bangalore thereafter.
Boasting a total prize pool of LKR 450,000 and also an all-expense paid trip to Bangalore for the two winnings teams to compete in the regional tournament, registrations for the Asus ROG Masters Sri Lanka tournament will commence on the 16 of June 2017. You can click here to register once registrations are open. The preliminary rounds will take place from the 30th of June to the 02nd of July 2017 from which the top 4 teams will be selected. From there, they will battle it out on the 29th and 30th of July (one day for each game) at Crescat Boulevard. The grand Finale of the ROG Masters will be held later on this year in Singapore.
