Startup Weekend is a global initiative that aims to promote entrepreneurship. By gatherings participants at a single location for a weekend, the initiative empowers these participants with all the tools they need to build their very own startups. Be it, mentors, free and unlimited Wi-Fi, to free and unlimited coffee or food, Startup Weekend gives you all the goodies you need to build a company over the weekend.
Boasting the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs on the planet, Startup Weekend has held over 1,800 events in 190 countries. If that’s not enough to get you excited, then there’s also the 190,000+ people across the globe who are Startup Weekend alumni.
A few months ago we attended Startup Weekend Jaffna and following that, we attended Startup Weekend Colombo. These event brought together like-minded individuals and groups from all walks of life where they would have a little under 54 hours to come up with an innovative idea, and use that idea to build a company. All this, over the course of the weekend.
Beginning on Friday, you will have the icebreaker session where you introduce yourself, an idea you have and form a team. Following t hath is a Saturday you will spend building a startup with your team. This ranges from the actual code for the product to literally going out to meet potential clients to see if they like your idea and would fund you.
The last day is where you bring it all together for the grand finale, a competition where you and your team pitch your startup to a panel of judges. Impress the judges enough, and you might just walk away crowned the winner of Startup Weekend.
That’s right. The third iteration of Startup Weekend will be at the Faculty of Engineering – University of Jaffna, located in Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi.
Beginning from the 16th of December 2016 and culminating on the 18th of December 2016, the event will boast all the goodies from past events including a group of Mentors itching to meet you and a panel of judges eagerly awaiting your ideas.
If you are unable to make it, fret not as We, from the ReadMe team will be present to bring you the latest and greatest as it happens.
