Easily one of the largest tech events of the year, the Mobile World Congress or MWC takes place in Barcelona. This year it’s being held from the 27th of February to the 2nd of March 2017. Apart from seeing the return of a legend in terms of the Nokia 3310, MWC 2017 also hosts the Four Years from Now or 4YFN programme. This is an international business and networking platform for the global tech startup community.
ICTA’s Spiralation programme once more has taken 10 startups to showcase at the 4YFN programme. These startups will represent Sri Lanka and also be showcasing their products whilst taking part in the workshops to improve their business. So without further ado, here are the startups representing Sri Lanka at MWC 2017.
Arimac’s primary focus is on Digital Interactive media such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Brain Computer Interface and Gamification. They are also the developers behind the game Kanchayudha. Apart from that, they also develop apps for enterprise usage and also provide mobility solutions smoother. Currently, their clients include Emirates, Dialog Axiata, 3M, Nestle, Coca Cola, and Vodafone.
This is a technology development company specializing in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Computer Graphics & Computer Vision applications. We saw them back in 2016. Their main product is a cloud based VR and AR platform which can also stream content in real time. The platform is primarily aimed at businesses involved in E-commerce. This is because the platform can be used to help you visualize what a product would look like in the real world before you buy it.
Developed by Erbenlabs, NicNac is pretty much a household name by now. Quite literally. From delivering your groceries to delivering your food to even collecting your driving license, these guys do it all. Their other product is called Veins, an app where one would be able to find the nearest donor for a particular blood type in case of an emergency.
Hypehash too has been riding the wave of popularity from their inception. They are essentially the world’s first hashtag monetization platform. The app tells designers who can create items around trending hashtag and sell those items. For buyers, it gives them goods that are literally trending and also donate some money to charity. A Multi-Utility Company operating globally focusing on providing custom based solutions for Banking, finance, and telecommunication domains, we first saw PayMedia in 2015. With over 2 years of experience in the FinTech sector together with personalized customer service, PayMedia offers services such as a Cash & Cheque Deposit Kiosk, ePIN Distribution Solution, Smart Banking Kiosk, Micro Finance Mobile App, Electronic Wallet etc.
This is an IT startup that sprung forth from a leading technical university in Sri Lanka. Their primary expertise is in IoT. As such their spectrum spans from Healthcare, Transport Industry, Power Industry and Agriculture to Digitization of Lands. They have also set up a subsidiary in Japan and have business partnerships in USA, UK, New Zealand, Australia and several emerging markets. Currently Effective Solutions validated at 1.8Mn USDs.
MyThesis is a market place and a global platform that aims to connects your thesis and/or research with businesses, investors, partners, universities and academics all over the world. Aiming to bridge the gap between researchers and users of research content, the platform gives an opportunity for modern students to share their thesis/research/idea/dissertation with a worldwide audience.
We first saw SenzMate in March 2016. Their initial product was to help the agriculture sector. Since then, they have expanded into Telematic solutions, Environmental Monitoring solutions and Digital Signage solutions. They also have their own in-house core IoT analytic platform called “Magma” which acts as the brain for its IoT innovation projects. SenzMate has also partnered with enterprises to build their own IoT applications on top of “Magma”.
