Ninety-four thousand attendees from over two hundred countries, this is the size of the Mobile World Congress. One of the biggest tech events of the year, the Mobile World Congress is back for 2016 and will take place in Barcelona from the 22nd of February to the 25th of February. Sri Lanka is of course, no stranger to the Mobile World Congress. We’ve visited the Mobile World Congress a bunch of times, returned home with a few awards and we are about to do it again.
This year, ICTA’s Spiralation programme is taking 10 startups and is going to put them in the spotlight at the 4YFN program. In case you’re lost, the 4 Years From Now programme or 4YFN is an international business and networking platform for the global tech start-up community.The highlight of the 4YFN programme is a 3 day programme led by globally known experts in entrepreneurship and innovation, and features conference sessions, workshops, interactive discussions, investor meetings and start-up competitions, such as the finals of the Global Mobile Innovators Tournament enabled by IBM, and much more.
So if you’re one of the lucky people headed to Barcelona for 4YFN, you shall find a Sri Lanka Pavilion which is run by ICTA’s Spiralation programme. Inside this Sri Lanka Pavilion, you’ll find 10 startups that’ll be showcasing their offerings and attending workshops designed to help them grow. So who are these 10 startups that’ll be at 4YFN? Katha is a social media platform that’s all about your voice. In simple terms, communicate with your friends privately or with your followers publicly by using short voice messages called voice casts. Think of it as Twitter or Snapchat for voice. We’ve covered the story of Katha in detail before, which you can find here.

Erbenlab is a cloud technology specialist that focuses on artificially intelligent cloud based application development. Their signature product, “Cense Cloud ERP” is an artificially intelligent, highly scalable cloud based enterprise resource planning system which is aimed at small and medium enterprises. Arimac is a startup that aims to deliver an unmatchable gamification experience to its users. Arimac has created a unique combination of innovative gamification solutions utilizing AR technologies. Some of the many large giants Arimac has created gamification solutions are: Dialog, Nestle, Unilever and many more. Previously, we were amazed when we took a look at one of their games, The Journey of Kimaki and our review will tell you why.
A product of Mogo Solutions, Kaawo is a collaborative story telling platform. With it, you can work together with your friends to create your own unique stories and then share them with the world. Each story can be a real news story or a work of fiction with multiple endings. A few weeks back, Kaawo was selected as a finalist at the Global Mobile Innovators Tournament. The finals of the Tournament will be happening at 4YFN and we wish the Kaawo team the best of luck.
ShoutOUT is a messaging platform created by Square Mobile, that aims to help businesses better connect with their customers. It lets businesses send individually customized text messages by segmenting their audience using advanced rules and data gathered. ShoutOUT also allows businesses to engage with customers in real-time and run special promotions via text messages as well. PayMedia is a startup that launched in 2014 and is already operating globally. PayMedia provides custom solutions for finance and telecommunication domains such as kiosk hardware, POS devices, kiosk apps and feasibility studies for independent system audits. Their most famous product is an ATM which we first saw at the MIT Global Startup Labs demo day and is to be able to do many of the tasks a bank teller does. As awesome as that sounds, it’s still just one product in their mid-sized portfolio.
A product of Enhanzer, eZuite is a cloud based ERP platform for manufacturers, distributors & retailers to drive their business operations. With zero up-front costs and with a monthly subscription instead, eZuite is aimed at the global enterprise market. eZuite is a popular platform with Enhanzer’s clients and easily manages 11500+ transactions daily. Liveroom, is an augmented reality marketing and advertising platform. Available on both Android and iOS, Liveroom allows you to virtually experience any product before you buy it. The video we’ve included above explains the process. That’s just one example though, Liveroom can feature many other products from jewelry to business cards. If you have products you want to feature on liveroom, all you have to do is create your Liveroom, send a few images of your product and the team will create a 3D model that can be featured on Liveroom. Pickfi is an e-commerce platform with a twist – it’s powered by social media trends. This means users can create, curate and sell their unique merchandise to trend followers and fans. For more information check out their official website.
A product of Evensel-IT, YouSnap is an app that allows you to take control of and take pictures remotely from any smart device. This is done by connecting all the smart devices you use with a single secure network. While YouSnap is their featured app, Evensel-IT has produced many other apps from insurance claim apps to games.
