We were at the Convocation Ceremony of Informatics Institute of Technology more fondly referred to as IIT. Established in 1990, IIT awards British degrees in the field of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Business, BEng (Hons) Software Engineering and BSc (Hons) Information Systems with Business Management (ISBM) internal degrees and also Masters programs such as MSc In Advanced Software Engineering from the University of Westminster, UK.
The 21st Convocation Ceremony was held on the 1st of October 2015 at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.
The convocation was declared open by Prof. Geoffrey Petts, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Westminster. Congratulating the students on their very big day he said; “We look forward to work with this great institution, its staff, its board its alumni here in Sri Lanka; to help drive the next phase of your journey and to help you all make a difference as you move forward ”

With a warm welcome address by Prof. Alfred Perera – Dean, IIT; where he recalled the successful journey that IIT has come along during the past years. “The world is in your hands.”
He concluded his speech by quoting Mahatma Gandhi.
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

We also had the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr. James Dauris at the ceremony. He mentioned about the recent achievements of the students at competitions like the NBQSA and the Microsoft Imagine Cup where IIT was able to secure 6 awards. Mr. Dauris congratulated all the students.
