If you thought coding events and hackathons were Colombo-centric, think again. Travel with us to Peradeniya to witness ACES Coders v5.0, the Ultimate Coding competition for undergraduates.

Organized by the Association of Computer Engineering Students, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, ACES Coders is an overnight coding competition. Structured around the IEEExtream style, a set of problems are identified and the teams’ duty is to solve the maximum number of problems and be crowned the winner. At the end after a grueling 12 hours, the University of Moratuwa were declared victorious and won the championship. This year, however, the organizers want it bigger and better. As such ACES is aiming for 100 teams from more than 25 departments in state and private universities around the country. They even have some pretty hefty backers to support them. As such, ShipXpress (Platinum sponsor), MilleniumIT (Strategic partner), and Atrenta and IFS (Silver sponsors) will be partnering with them for the event.

This is the perfect opportunity for Sri Lankan undergraduates to showcase their problem solving skills. But remember, it’s not always about the code. Teamwork and dedication are also tools that need to be cultivated to bring your team to victory.

If you are participating, you will need your laptop and related SDKs installed. Power and Internet will be provided. In case you get a case of the midnight munchies, bring some snacks along too.

Overall, the hype for the event is growing. We wish the teams good luck and all the best for the competition. May the odds be ever in your favor.
