Bhasha Lanka is a local and ambitious startup founded by Dhanika Perera, a young Sri Lankan entrepreneur in 2011 while being an undergraduate at the University of Moratuwa. In it’s early stages Bhasha was existing as a fully virtual operation for more 18 months with part-time employees, and has successfully innovated a number of products that brought them recognition through prestigious awards; namely the mBillionth South Asian Mobile Award (2011), e-Swabhimani National Award (2011 & 2012) and the National Best Quality Software Award (NBQSA 2012).
Bhasha developed the first ever Sinhala/Tamil rendering supported web browser for Android called SETT Browser which is now available free for Dialog and Etisalat users. This browser earned them the mBillionth award and ever since, they have developed several local language mobile products, including the most popular AdaDerana Sinhala/Tamil news apps.
Transiting from a virtual company to a physical company, Bhasha stepped into physical presence in Kalutara on the 8th of April 2013. With a deep vision of “Empowerment to the Masses”, Bhasha is working towards enabling the use of information technology for the non-English speaking community in Sri Lanka and South Asia by providing them software solutions in their own mother tongue, helping non-English-literate societies to overcome their language barriers.
