Tech startup events are nothing new. Over the years, we’ve seen Sri Lanka give birth to quite a number of them. But the folks at StartupX Foundry aim to bring something different on the table. This is where the Colombo Tech Startup Seminar 2017 comes into the picture. This is an event aimed at taking local startups to the global marketplace. The aim is to become a platform that would provide thriving entrepreneurs market access and connectivity with investors, local and global shapers in the startup ecosystem.
First up on the list is Pete Deemer, ex-Vice President of Product Development at Yahoo. He comes with over 20 years of experience in building products and services of global companies. Pete is also well known in the Agile community and currently heads GoodAgile, a company with a clientele in the South Asian region including Sri Lanka. At the Colombo Tech Startup Seminar, Pete will be sharing what lean startups are all about. This is where embracing experimentation, customer feedback and iterative design would aim to make starting up a less risky option.
A serial entrepreneur with over 25 years’ worth of experiences, Dag has headed multi-million dollar European tech companies and currently chairs numerous boards of tech companies. These include companies such as Driw AS, WindSim AS and even 99X Technology. At the Seminar, Dag’s session will focus on what going global means for startups. He will be sharing his insights on accessing and utilizing the global startup ecosystem.
Alexander Woxen is the CEO and Co-Founder of StartupLab, a Norwegian startup incubator. Alexander’s entrepreneurial journey began back in 1996, with a company called Integrate. Today, he works with over 65 tech startups to help them gain access to support, global contacts and financing. Drawing from his own personal experience, Alexander will share insights on how to kick-start your startup journey.
Former CEO of Etisalat, Dumindra Ratnayaka is best known as the man behind the launch of Etisalat and Tigo brands in Sri Lanka. In addition to being a pioneer in the mobile telco space, Dumindra is also an active figure in the local Angel Investor ecosystem. He will be talking about angel funding and how one would go about things to convince a potential investor.
