Born in 1976, the Computer Society of Sri Lanka is a non-profit body, established for the purpose of promoting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and professionalism among those engaged in this field. Additionally, it also works towards maintaining the highest of professional standards at all levels of the Sri Lankan ICT industry.
Today, the CSSL is considered to be the apex body for ICT professionals in Sri Lanka. This is due to its reputation both locally and internationally. It is recognized as a member of International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). Additionally, The CSSL is also the Sri Lankan representative in the South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC). As such, one can see that the people elected into the CSSL’s Executive Committee, will play a large part in both representing and ensuring the growth of the Sri Lankan ICT industry.
The new Executive Committee for 2017, was elected at the recently held General Meeting of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka, and will be led by Yasas Vishuddhi Abeywickrama. He is a known industry activist, and has been with CSSL Executive Council for five years before becoming the President. He also has held leadership roles with the Australian Computer Society (ACS). Additionally, he’s also the first ever Sri Lankan to be elected into IFIP. Alongside Yasas, eleven other industry leaders were elected to the CSSL Executive Council for the year 2017 in supporting roles.
As a new year dawns upon us and their tenure begins, the new council will focus on becoming a Thought Leader & Knowledge Platform together with being more active and engaging within the industry. They will be doing so working on various plans to implement events, activities, projects and other initiatives focused on these areas. We look forward to their new calendar and wish them the best of efforts to carry forward into 2017.
