Frontier Innovators is an initiative by InnovationXchange, which is a project by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Australian Government together with SecondMuse, an innovation agency designed to tackle complex problems.
A primary goal of Frontier Innovators is to locate and find innovative businesses in the Asia-Pacific that are creating an impact through their work that encourages the Sustainable Development Goals. As such, they are looking for upto 15 such companies to support them and help them to grow. These companies can either be an established business or a budding startup.
If you wish to join this initiative, then all you need is a product that benefits people in the Asia-Pacific region. If you’re among the 15 selected startups or companies, then you will receive a funding of upto AUD 100,000 in the form of a grant. The winning companies will also take part in a 3 to 6-month support program designed to build key skills and also give you some unique chances for your company to grow and gain international recognition. In addition, advisors and potential partners/investors will also work with winning businesses to help them grow further and prepare them for the future.
Furthermore, crowdisland, which is Sri Lanka’s first crowd based equity platform has joined Frontier Innovators Advisory Group for the current program. As a member of the Advisory Board, crowdisland would work with other expert advisors in the region. Having joined forces with StartupXFoundry, a startup incubator in Sri Lanka, crowdisland is now going international.
Well, that’s quite easy. All you have to do is be a company that belongs to a country in the Asia-Pacific. Now that you got that sorted, head over here and submit your application. You can even nominate another company if you feel that they’re eligible to take part in Frontier Innovators. Non-profits and charity organizations too can take part but you will need to present valid proof of a business model.
Applications for Frontier Innovators were opened on the 25th of July 2017. It will remain open until the 30th of September 2017 at which point, applications submissions will close. Following that, the finalists of the Frontier Innovation program will be announced in October 2017. Afterwards, the winners of Frontier Innovators will be announced in November 2017.
Once you submit your application, please do keep an eye out in your inbox so that you don’t miss any important emails regarding these dates and submissions. If you want more details regarding Frontier Innovators, you can click here.
