If there’s one thing we Sri Lankans complain about it’s our internet. Sometimes it’s slow or we are forced to deal with poor customer service. Sometimes it is else entirely that’s preventing us from going online and ranting about it. Yet, despite all these issues, we have it better than most. Last year, Sri Lanka was ranked as one of the leading countries with the fastest internet speeds in South Asia. Go back one year further and you’ll find that in 2014, Sri Lanka was the first country in the region to get 4G thanks to Dialog.

Yesterday, Sri Lanka became the latest country to join 20 other nations that have 4.5G Internet. Yes, we now have the capability to deliver 4.5G here in Sri Lanka. This was confirmed by a successful test by Dialog using Huawei’s infrastructure. What does this mean for us? In simple terms, it means we get faster internet. To be precise, 1 Gbps download speeds on LTE is how much faster your internet can be according to Dialog.

It’s nice to see that our ISP’s haven’t stopped pushing the boundaries of technology to bring us better speeds. However, we’ve yet to get an official date from Dialog as to when they will begin rolling out 4.5G speeds for customers. Hopefully, we can expect it soon now that the tests have been completed.
