Stage set for Inter-University Enterprise Mobility Software Development Competition 2012 Finals
The Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) and Motorola Solutions will conduct the Inter-University Enterprise Mobility Software Development Competition finals on 5th October 2012 at the Auditorium of The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL).
Under the patronage of Her Excellency Michelle J Sison, US ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives; 16 Undergraduate teams representing 12 Sri Lankan Universities and University affiliated colleges, are set to demonstrate the Enterprise level Mobile applications developed during last 5 months. The day-long event comprising student stalls and live demo areas will lead up to the award ceremony with the participation of another set of VVIPs.
16 solutions have been selected out of 91 entries by a panel of experts. Students from Universities of Peradeniya, Ruhuna, Kelaniya, Jaffna, Sri Jayawardenapura, Uva Wellassa, Rajarata, OUSL, APIIT, SLIIT, SAITM and IIT, have addressed the needs of varied industry verticals such as Healthcare, Plantation, Tourism, Retail, Agriculture, Transportation and public organizations such as Railways, Ports, Water and Disaster management .
Commenting upon the initiative, Motorola Solutions Director and Country Manager for Sri Lanka, Mr. Anuradha Tennakoon said, “It is evident from these applications that our undergraduates are capable of developing world class solutions with proper guidance and coaching. These young people are the future of our IT industry and they will drive Sri Lanka to a leading edge of world’s Mobile solutions development landscape.”
Acknowledging the role played by the Ministry of Higher Education, Mr. Tennakoon said “We are very pleased with the support that we receive from the Ministry of Higher Education for this program of national importance.” He also expressed his appreciation of Event communication partner ‘Dialog Axiata’ and was hopeful of enlisting their support for other student projects too.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sujiva Devaraja Chairman of SLASSCOM stated that since its inception, SLASSCOM has been in the forefront of leveraging on the mobile technologies revolution for Sri Lankan businesses by promoting their Centre of Excellence. Their member companies are also serving some of the global giants with cutting edge solutions. Mr. Devaraja said “We are delighted that Motorola has once again come forward to sponsor this event with the very active support of the Ministry of Higher Education, who partners us in our efforts to ensure our University students are second to none in the world of mobile technologies.”
