Reviewed: FotoJet – Turning Your Photos Into Works Of Art

Nowadays everything is online. Be it a calculation, a reservation or even a photo editor, all these tools have been made accessible online. You just need to know where to look. Meet FotoJet. No its not the name of a fancy printer. Rather it’s a free online collage maker and photo editor.

What exactly is FotoJet?

Simply put, FotoJet is an all-in-one free online tool for photo editing, graphic design and creating photo collages. At least, that’s what the website says. It is basically a photo editor, graphic designer, and a collage maker all rolled up into one package and made available online.

We all have had instances where we had that one photo we needed to edit but had no software installed on our PCs or laptops to do so. If you’re in the marketing or graphics department, then you would know the struggle is indeed very real. Our immediate action would then be to go online to find a tool that would do the job for you. This is where FotoJet comes into play.

Using FotoJet

Navigate to the FotoJet site and you are greeted with the home page. From here, you can select whether you want to edit a photo, create a design or make a collage. The first thing you would want to do is to create an account. This would allow you to save your designs and share them online. It also gives you access to FotoJet’s premium features for no charge at all, Yes, that’s right. It’s absolutely free.

Editing Photos in FotoJet

Editing a photo gives you numerous options. You can either upload a photo from your PC or use a sample photo from FotoJet’s database. Once a photo is selected, you are given a number of options to choose from.

If you want FotoJet to do all the work, then simply click the “Auto Enhance” button and everything will be taken care of. However, if you’re feeling braver, you can venture into editing images yourself. You are given options to crop, resize, rotate and to adjust exposure levels and colors. You can also add effects such as sharpen, Dehaze, add a vignette, adjust noise levels, change focus, add a color splash and you are also given a selective filter. This option allows you to adjust setting such as exposure, brightness, contrast highlights, shadows, saturation, temperature and tint. Overall, everything you would need to edit your images to perfection.

If you just want to add a filter for your image, you can do that as well by clicking the “Effects” button. From there you can add effects to your images such as Black and White, Sepia, Chromatic, Scene and Vintage.

Adding text is also possible along with clipart as well. If you want to further edit your photos, you can add an overlay to it and adjust the intensity of it as well. Once that’s done, you can cap it off by adding a nice frame to your photos for that extra bit of elegance and class.

Creating A Design – FotoJet style

Clicking the “Design” tab gives you the ability to create a number of products ranging from Posters to Flyers to Invitations and Cards. If you’re into Social media, then FotoJet also gives you the ability to create Social Media headers such as YouTube channel art, Facebook cover images, YouTube thumbnails, Twitter headers and even email headers.

The features that you have with editing images is also present when creating posters, flyers, invitations and cards. You can select a predefined template, add text, clipart and change/edit backgrounds. You can also drag and drop images from FotoJet’s database or add your own images as well.

The same holds true for social media headers. Depending on the header type you selected, the dimensions of the image are given along with some predefined templates. Here again, you have the ability to add text, clipart, backgrounds and add images locally or from FotoJet. If the desired dimensions are not present, you can also add a custom size to create a design. Quite handy indeed.

Creating A Collage with FotoJet

The Collage is probably the one Design tool of FotoJet that has the most number of design templates. Starting from a simple photo grid, you can create a 3D, Modern, Art or Poster Collage. If that doesn’t strike your fancy, you can also create a collage in the style of a comic book or magazine or even add an image to a fun photo such as the Mona Lisa or even a Wanted poster. I must admit, I spent quite a considerable time going through the various collage styles and chuckling to myself.

You can also create photo cards. These cards range from occasions such as Birthday to Anniversary, thank you cards, Wedding, Graduation, Easter Halloween and a number of other cards to suit the occasion.

Clicking one of these templates allows you to further edit elements such as the text, font, color and text size. You can also add effects such as outline and glow to add that extra touch.

Saving your newly created templates

Once you have created and perfected your template, you can either choose to save it to your PC via a PDF or you can share it on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Saving the image locally gives you the option selecting the file format (JPEG or PDF). You can also choose the resolution (high or low quality). One thing that I noticed was the lack of the ability to save your designs to the cloud. Not an overall important feature but a feature that could come in very useful if implemented.

What we really think about FotoJet

If you are looking to create multiple designs, then you will also notice that you can only create one design at a time. So if you want to create a new design, rather than editing the existing one, you will have to start from scratch. Rather time consuming, yes, but again, nothing that we fuss over a lot about.

Overall, Using FotoJet is extremely easy. It’s also very similar to antoher online photo editor and collage maker “Canva”. In fact, FotoJet at times looks to be a clone of Canva. It could in fact, be the other way around though. Whatever the case may be, using FotoJet is easy as selecting a template, adding your photos, adjusting them into a proper collage, saving and sharing them on Facebook. Akin to 1,2,3. The sheer number of templates alone will keep you hooked to create multiple templates. From classical designs to modern designs, to everything in between, FotoJet certainly does seem to have everything and the kitchen sink thrown in.

On the lookout for an easy-to-use photo editor, collage maker or social media header creater? Go ahead and give FotoJet a go. If they can add feature such as the ability to save designs online and the ability to create multiple designs at the same time, that would certainly win over even the most ardent of skeptics.
