It is 8PM on Wednesday the 18th of May 2016. If you head towards the SLECC (Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre) you will most likely encounter a large gathering of people clad in white t-shirts bearing an abstract lion. They have all gathered for one reason, and one reason only:Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka.
Held annually in San Fransisco, Google I/O is the quintessential event for everything related to Google. But what if you can’t make it to San Fransisco? Well that’s why you have the Google I/O Extended programme. This year, Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka is organized by Dialog and they’ve made it bigger and better. After braving the long lines and registering, you will get your traditional Google I/O Extended T-shirt and meal token. Once you walk in, you’ll see that this year is nothing like the previous years.
There’s a massive demo area with some of the coolest tech you’ll find in Sri Lanka. On side you find a stall by Arimac showing off their latest games. On the other side you have Bhasha and Zone 24×7 showing off the cool stuff they’re working on. In the middle there’s us next to LetMeKnow.lk’s drone
airport stall. This is but a small description of many stalls with cool tech we are seeing inside the demo-area alongside a few Dialog stalls.
But one of the coolest things we saw at Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka this year was the cosplayers. Yes, this year we saw cosplay at Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka. As always, the Sri Lankan cosplay community never fails to impress.
