HSBC and British Council Announce Youth Enterprise Awards

There’s a rising wave of attention heading towards startups and young entrepreneurs these days. The HSBC Youth Enterprise Awards (YEA) is one such initiative. It’s a Business Plan Contest organised by the British Council in partnership with HSBC that aims to helpe young entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka kickstart their own businesses. The contest is open to Sri Lankan undergraduates, postgraduates and students aged 16 to 26 years representing universities, private higher education institutions, technical and vocational institutions and professional training bodies in Sri Lanka. Seven industry categories are open for application:

  1. Creative industries (advertising, architecture, art, crafts, design, fashion)
  2. Tourism and hospitality
  3. Information technology and telecommunications
  4. Engineering
  5. Agriculture  (Horticulture, Fisheries, Livestock)
  6. Education and Health
  7. Power and Energy

Potential entrepreneurs can apply before the 15th of September and pass through a two-day hackathon phase where they flesh out their business ideas before pitching them. The winning team receives Rs 500,000. Click here to get to the page. Time to get those pitching hats on!
