The trend of tech talks and workshops happening at APIIT organized by the Student Activity Club – apart from the usual Refresh Colombo and the Google events – saw yet another event last Friday: developing and monetizing apps with IdeaMart.
The workshop was held at the APIIT City Campus premises where an overflow of 80 students from APIIT and few others from universities in the vicinity participated. To conduct the session the IdeaMart team from Dialog was present.
The session kicked off with Venura Medis, the Head of Product Service Innovation at Dialog, giving an introduction to the IdeaMart platform and what’s new and unique compared to other telco application platforms. He also described the opportunities available for developers on the platform. A short demonstration on how to create a simple SMS based app was done by Rajive Kumar, a technical representative from hSenid – who developed this platform for Dialog. The Developer Community Manager of Dialog, Charith De Silva then introduced the eZ Cash platform and how it can be integrated with the IdeaMart apps to monetize them.
To top it all, Mr. Roshanth Gardiarachchi, the Product Manager of IdeaMart threw a challenge to all the participants where the best app developed at the session selected by a judging panel from Dialog will be awarded a tab worth Rs. 70,000.
The Dialog Team who conducted the session also informed the organizers that they would develop an SMS alert application for the Student Activity Club where students can subscribe to get updates on the regular events happening at APIIT.
