Prepare Yourself For Informatique ’17

ICT has become a staple part of our lives. We use the information we have to communicate through technology. In that regard, with the intent of showcasing their latest endeavours in the field if ICT, the ICT Society of S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia, will be hosting Informatique ’17.

What is Informatique?

Quite simply, Informatique is the annual ICT convention and exhibition of the ICT Society of S. Thomas’ College. We saw Informatique last year as well. This year, Informatique ’17 will be held on the 13th of October at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel Colombo. The event is open to all Schools, Colleges and Universities in Sri Lanka.

Apart from the exhibition and convention, there will also be a number of quizzes and competitions that those attending can take part in. The categories for those who can take part are as follows:

  • Invited Schools Category
  • College Category
  • University Category

Invited Schools Category

  • ICT Quiz – The initial round of the ICT Quiz will be held online and the top 5 teams with the highest scores will be eligible to attend the main conference. These top 5 teams will then face a written quiz at the venue. The three teams who score the highest will then be chosen for the finals where they will face each other on stage.
  • Software/Website/Graphic Designing Competition: Competitors will be asked to email or post their entries to the ICT Society. From there, the top 10 will selected and awards will be given to the final 3 from each category.
  • Problem Solving: Students from participating schools are required to form teams of four and will be asked to develop a working solution to solve a real world problem using either a Software or Hardware (IoT) platform.

The preliminary rounds will be held at the College Hall and 5 teams that have used Software and 5 teams that have used IoT will be eligible to attend the main conference and will exhibit their projects at the venue.

  • The exhibitors will then present their exhibits on stage and the three finalists that have used Software to develop a working solution will be placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Similarly, the top 3 projects that have used IoT to develop a working solution will be placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

College Category

  • Software/Website/Graphic Designing Competition: Competitors will be asked to email or hand in their entries to the ICT Society and the top 3 entries from each category will be placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
  • Presentation: Competitors are required to do a presentation on any topic they like. The preliminary rounds will be held at the College Hall and the top 5 presenters will be eligible to attend the main conference. The presenters will then be asked to do a presentation on stage and the top 3 teams will be awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

University Category

  • Problem solving: Universities are required to form teams of four and will be asked to develop a working solution to a real world problem using Software or IoT. The preliminary rounds will be held at the College Hall and the top 5 teams will be eligible to attend the main conference and will exhibit their projects at the venue. The teams will then present their solutions on stage and the top 3 projects that have developed a working solution will be placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd while two teams will be awarded merits.
