Infotel 2015, the premier ICT exposition of South East Asia has come to an end. As the Digital Media Partners of Infotel for the 3rd consecutive year, we were there all 3 days and we saw many things on Day 01 and a lot more deals on Day 02 this year. The stalls at Infotel had a lot more variety and some like Dell were more elaborate. There were also those like SALA that had launched a new online presence at Infotel. If you want to check out SALA’s online store, click here.
Of course, at every Infotel there’s always a few stalls that are better than others. Here’s our list of the best stalls we saw at Infotel 2015.
The Mobitel Innovation Centre Bus Stand
When we first saw it, we shrugged it off as just another stall by Mobitel to sell SIM cards at Infotel. Then we went for a closer look and were blown away. This stall was designed by the bright minds of the Mobitel Innovation Centre in Trace City as the Sri Lankan bus stand of 2020.
From a street light that gives you WiFi to a display that tells you how long a bus will take to arrive, this stall had an array of amazing features. Currently, it’s still a concept. However, the majority of it’s features were working and it’s actually a realistic interpretation of Sri Lanka’s future. Though what really impressed us, was how subtly it was designed.
The SLT eSports Championship 2015
Infotel is no stranger to gaming. Last year we saw two amazing sections dedicated to gaming with the MSI Beat IT e-sports tournament and Redline Technologies’ gaming area. This year we saw both of those blown out of the water and e-sports in Sri Lanka taken to a whole new level.
The SLT E-sports Championship was happening on all 3 days of Infotel 2015 at Hall E. Whenever we went to Hall E, there was always a massive enthusiastic crowd cheering for their teams. All these teams fought their battles in an arena that was akin to what you’d find at the largest international e-sports tournaments. Last year, we saw a smaller version of SLCG at Infotel, this year we saw a rival to it.
The Winners of the tournament were:
2. X3.Death Sentence
3. PnX|Team SyFy.MSI
|League of Legends|
1. X3.Team REKT
2. PnX|TeaM PhoeniX.MSI
3. Team Fear the Dark Horse
|Call of Duty: Black Ops II|
3. X3. Death From Above
|Counter Strike: Global Offensive|
2. Rasheed Ameer
1. X3. Reapers with Snipers
3. PnX|Cause of Fear.MSI
|Mortal Kombat X|
From E-Swabhimani winners to Venture Engine finalists to APICTA nominees. The stall belonging to ICTA’s Spiralation program had a variety of amazing startups in miniature stalls showcasing their work. As you walk up to these entrepreneurs and ask them to introduce their ideas, it’s very clear why many of them had earned the prestigious awards they had.
The Ministry of Defense
If there’s one stall that’s always popular at Infotel it’s the one belonging to the Ministry of Defense. This year they had a bigger stall which showcased more systems to give information to front-line troops. However, the start of the show was the AK-47 hooked up to the small-arms firing simulator. Across the 3 days of Infotel 2015, the air of Hall C was filled with the sounds of this AK-47 going off with a crowd around it.
The IT Museum
The last entrant on our list is the IT Museum. The collection hasn’t seen any new additions from last year. However, it’s still a valuable cross section of IT history that never fails to attract the crowds at Infotel. Hopefully, this is a sign that it will become a regular exhibit at Infotel in the years to come.
