By now you’re probably familiar with Infotel. You’ve probably also gone for an Infotel event as well. If you still don’t know what Infotel is, Infotel is essentially Sri Lanka’s largest ICT exposition and conference. Held on an annual basis, Infotel is organized by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS).
According to the newly appointed Chairman of FITIS, Dr. Kithsiri Manchanayake, the driving force behind Infotel tweaked the direction of Infotel as they identified untapped potential. Thus, they are focusing on 10 sectors that technology can help introduce innovation from companies to create a digital economy. These sectors include Agriculture and Environment, Logistics and Transport, Health, Education and training, Travel and Tourism, Digital Citizens and Smart Cities, Telecommunication and Networking, Trading and Manufacturing, Power and Energy and Banking and Finance.
What’s in store for Infotel 2017?
Speaking at the recently held launch event of Infotel 2017, Upul Dassanayake – Co-chairman of Infotel Organizing committee explained that as this is the 25th anniversary of Infotel, this makes it extremely special for them. Infotel has become a platform to introduce new technologies to the masses. The focus for Infotel 2017 would be to showcase how technology can help create a digital economy, thus sending an example of how technology can help various sectors and transform Sri Lanka.
Revolving around the theme of moving “Towards a Digital Economy”, Infotel 2017 will be held from the 1st to the 5th of November 2017 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. Here, policy makers and various stakeholders from the industry will come together to bring about a new era of digitized environment.
