A few days back, we saw a unique event. This event set a milestone in Lankan eSports history. This event was the first ever Inter-School eSports Championship. Held inside Trace Expert City, it opened the doors for students to compete in one grand arena filled with an electrifying atmosphere. Students from over 50 schools took part in various titles. All of them, aiming to take the coveted trophy back home.
Despite their ages, some of the youngsters displayed breathtaking plays during the tournament to show off some pure skills and experience through their games. The plays were not what brought the cheers the most; it was the beginning of settling old rivalries in a new style is what made the Inter-School eSports Championship historical.
An el Clasico match of Royal College and St. Thomas’ College kicked off the matches early in the morning. It was a remarkable sight to see youngsters from both schools battling out the rivalry with nothing but sportsmanship and unity in mind. The beauty of it was further taken forward only by the never-ending cheers from their supporters. It was an all-schools big match through every passing game.
While it was silently expected that the big names of Colombo would be the ones to shine the most, it was not the case. Every school had well-prepared representatives going head to head against each other. All of them fought valiantly determined to bring pride to their school. Some even showed their preparations by wearing unique attire made especially for the event. Despite being the first inter-school championship, the atmosphere of the event seemed as if it has been going on for a long time and everyone was well aware of it.
Even though victory and defeat were really not the most outstanding point of this event as a whole, the following schools and their representatives managed to outplay the entire competition to emerge victoriously. The final results are as follows:

The overall winners
By securing 1 gold and 2 silver medals, Gateway College Rajagiriya were the overall champions at the first ever Inter-School eSports Championship in Sri Lanka! It was closely followed by Leighton Park International, which came in 2nd place. They were also challenged commendably by D. S. Senanayake College, Asoka Vidyalaya, and Zahira College with their remarkable spirit and performance. All of whom, were tied for 3rd place.
The Inter-School eSports Championship brought forward a new era to eSports and to the schools of Sri Lanka. Video games will no longer be considered as an absolute time waste because as of today, there are young students who brought fame to their schools by playing and beating the competition through video games.
