It’s been 6 months since Sri Lanka’s first ever tech reality show kicked off. Kotiyak Vatina Adahasak has come a long way since then. From thousands of enthusiastic faces, it came down to eight finalists. From there, the battle for the best ultimately came down to the four finalists. About a month back, we took a closer look at these four finalists, Easy Deposit, Sure Cash, Ai Tech and of course Kingroder. But on the 21st of January, the moment came where a champion was crowned. Held at Stein Studios in Ratmalana, Kotiyak Vatina Adahasak came to a close in a manner that was fittingly grand.
Being the Digital Media partner, we arrived at the studios a few minutes early to catch the action. As we suspected the place was in full gear and everybody was busy prepping up for the grand moment. In one corner, the dancing groups were practicing and in the other, we saw the FX guy showing off his mad light mixing skills. Moments passed and suddenly the entire hall went dark. It was time for the final pitches.
As the stage illuminated, the 4 finalists took the stage to make their final pitch. First up, was Asiri De Silva from the Sure Cash team. He talked about counterfeits and why it may be a bigger issue than most people think. He emphasized on the level of vulnerability the situation poses. He showed a video of the world’s best counterfeiter (allegedly) to prove his point.
Asiri claimed Sure Cash can solve this problem easily. But of course, sometimes merely a video and a good pitch aren’t enough to convince the judging panel. Manju Gunawardena from the judges gave Asiri a set of cash notes to see if the Sure Cash device can verify if the particular notes are genuine or not. True enough, they were all genuine. Now it was Shashi Sampath’s turn to make his final pitch. He showcased his smart boiler solution to the audience. Shashi even gave a quick run through on its remote functionality live from his phone app. This was done via the system that was already connected to a boiler in a Horana factory. Shashi also demonstrated how his system would handle excess pressure situations that arise with the usual industrial level boilers. To know more about Ai Tech click here.
Number 3 on the list was Sunil Jayasinghe for his Easy Deposit solution. During his pitch, Sunil spoke on where the inspiration for his idea came into being. For those of you not in the know, it all began with his daughter asking him whether there’s a way to deposit small cash to the bank without visiting it.
To highlight the significance of his pitch, Sunil went on to explain his concept through a stage drama. By the end of the drama, we had a clear idea as to how Easy Deposit allows you to deposit money into your bank account with a scratch card. Think of it like mobile reloads but for your bank account. Last but not least, was Aruna Prasad Keerthirathna and his laser drilling solution. If you’ve been following our stories on the programme you probably know what the idea is all about. In case you don’t, here’s a quick recap. Kingroder is essentially laser assisted drilling mechanism. Additionally, this also comes with a leveling system. So where did the idea come about exactly? As Aruna puts it, the inception of Kingroder traces back to the science lesson he learned back in school. To know more about Kingroder click here.
Kotiyak Vatina Adahasak: Crowning the Champion
The final pitching had ended. Now it was up to the judges to decide who deserves the top spot. The panel left premises to come to a decision on who the winner should be. As the judges debated amongst themselves, the audience was greeted with a bit of entertainment.
It was a little after 8.30 PM when the panel finally returned with their verdict. The 4 teams stood nervously as the host was ready to make the announcement. So who won? The winner for Kotiyak Vatina Adahasak Season 1 was none other than Sunil Jayasinghe and the Easy Deposit team. Following suit, Sure Cash won the award for second place. Kingroder won the award for third place and Ai Tech won the award for fourth place.
And there you have it, folks. Kotiyak Vatina Adahasak has finally come to a close. A truly inspiring experience that spanned across 6 months. Until next time, with hopes of a Season 2 later this year.
