Mobitel recently refurbished and upgraded the computer lab at Polonnaruwa’s Royal College. Mobitel’s statement indicates that they’ve upgraded the lab’s internet connectivity significantly and provided content filtering services for web access. The President, Maithripala Sirisena, presided at the (re)opening.
Speaking at the opening of the computer lab, Mobitel’s CEO, Ranjith G. Rubasinghe stated, “We firmly believe that we have a responsibility to work towards reducing the gap in the digital divide in our society. It is essential to provide access and new opportunities for all levels in society to increase their familiarity with ICT. ICT knowledge is now an integral part of the education curriculum.
The cost of setting up ICT infrastructure is quite high, yet it is an important investment for the future of the country. Mobitel is in the forefront of working towards the country’s vision to increase the IT knowledge of the people, and the state-of-the-art computer lab that we have handed over today is a part of that effort. We earnestly request the school to make maximum use of the facilities and maintain them for future use as well.”
