At the Inter-University eSports championship organized by Gamer.lk and held on the 21st of April 2018, MSI unveiled their latest lineup of gaming laptops. Powered by Intel’s 8th Generation processors, the lineup comprises of the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin, GT75 and GE Raider RGB Edition gaming laptops. Further, MSI is also announcing the new GT83 Titan and GT63 Titan gaming laptops as well.
The key feature of this laptop is the fact that it has a display with a 144Hz refresh rate. In case you didn’t know the refresh rate in a display or monitor is how often a display will refresh the image on the screen.
In a normal 60Hz display, the display will refresh 60 times per second. So the higher this value, the smoother your game appears. You are also less likely to experience blur when moving rapidly in games. This means you can have better responsiveness in games. This is especially true for fast-paced FPS games such as Overwatch and CS:GO.
To make sure that the 144Hz display doesn’t suffer from screen tearing, the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin also comes with up to a GTX 1070 graphics card. Backed by up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, the laptop is powered by Intel’s latest 8th generation processor as well. The laptop comes with an SSD or SSD + HDD combo.
This pretty much means you can boot your laptop and be ready to take on your opponents in a matter of seconds. Other features include Killer Gb LAN, Bluetooth 5.0, an RGB backlit keyboard with per-key backlighting developed by SteelSeries and a battery promising up to 8 hours of battery life. The MSI GS65 starts off at LKR. 485,000/-
We’ve seen MSI pull off some questionable moves with laptops. The MSI GT75 Titan makes us question the difference between a desktop and a laptop. For starters, it has an overclocked Core i9 processor, a GTX 1080, UHD 4K IPS display and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. It also has a 512GB SSD and a 1TB HDD as well. MSI also packed a mechanical backlit keyboard with per-key backlighting into it as well.
The downside to this is that obviously, with all this hardware, the laptop is going to weigh a lot. As such, the GT75 Titan weighs in at around 4.5KG. So this is not exactly a laptop that you can keep on top of your lap for a while. On the other hand, it pretty much has all the firepower to take on a desktop. The question remains to be seen if it’s actually worth it. In terms of pricing, the GT75 starts off at LKR. 745,000/-
Initially seen at CES 2018, the MSI GE63/73 Raider packs RGB lighting into the top cover, keyboard, and even USB ports. The top cover actually has 24 separate zones with RGB lighting that can be customized from out of 16.8 million colors. The keyboard supports per-key backlighting so that you can customize your own profile on how your keyboard should look. As for the USB ports, well, why not?
The GE Raider also comes with Intel’s 8th Generation Core i7 Processor, backed up by up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM. In terms of the display, you’re looking at either a Full HD 120Hz display or a 4K UHD display. This is powered by a GeForce GTX1070 to deliver a smooth gaming experience. The screen sizes are 15.6 for the GE63 and 17.3 for the GE73. In terms of storage, the GE Raider lineup supports both an M.2 SSD and a 2.5” SATA HDD as well. As for how much it will cost, the GE Raider lineup starts off at LKR. 395,000/-.
