Gaming on a smartphone has come a long way. Games like Pokemon Go and Jurassic World Alive give us new ways to interact with the real world. Seeing this trend, Nubia, A company that has been contributing to gaming phones recently also announced their latest gaming smartphone, the Nubia Red Magic 3.

Who exactly is Nubia?

Founded in 2015, Nibia Technology is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer. The company started off as a subsidiary of ZTE back in 2012 and then went independent in 2015. In case you missed it, Nubia also showed off the Nubia Alpha. This is their entry to the foldable phone scene. But rather than a phone, the Nubia Alpha is actually a flexible camera watch with a phone built in. Confused? Have a look below.

The Nubia Red Magic 3 is cool, literally

The main selling point that Nubia is showing off with the Nubia Red Magic 3 is that the device has an actually fan built into it. With a maximum of 14,000rpm, the Nubia Red Magic 3 will also have a liquid cooling system, much like the Razer Phone 2, and to an extent, the Pocophone F1, and even the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

The other specs of the Nubia Red Magic 3 are nothing to scoff at either. There’s a Snapdragon 855 processor and Adreno 630 for all those gaming and CPU heavy tasks. Storage options go from 128GB with either 6 or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage with a whopping 12GB of RAM. The display is a 6.65” Full HD+ AMOLED display supporting HDR and a 90Hz refresh rate. So basically, you can expect a lag free butter smooth experience in whatever you do with the Nubia Red Magic 3. The Nubia Red Magic 3 also comes with a massive 5,000 mAh battery and a 27W fast charger.

Emphasizing the fact that this is indeed a gaming phone, the Nubia Red Magic 3 has shoulder triggers that can be mapped for shortcuts or even in-game functions, much like you would use a regular gamepad. There’s also a switch that launches a gaming dashboard called “Red Magic Game Space 2.0”. This gives the user the ability to quickly launch games, control the device’s fan speed and monitor temperatures. You can even use it to record in-game video.

The cameras on the Red Magic 3 are a 48mp rear camera and 16MP selfie camera. You also get a pair of front-facing speakers with DTS:X surround sound and a 3.5mm jack as well. There’s also RGB lighting on the back of the phone to add that extra ‘oomph’ to your phone.

In terms of software, the Nubia Red Magic 3 runs almost a stock version of Android. This means that there’s very little bloatware or 3rd party apps and it looks very much like a Google Pixel device.

How much is the Nubia Red Magic 3?

Nubia is aiming to launch the Red Magic 3 on the 3rd of May in China. The phone will also be available in the US, Canada, EU and UK as well. In terms of pricing, the Nubia Red Magic 3 would start off at around $430 for the 6GBRAM model with 64GB of storage. A fully decked out Red Magic 3 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage will cost around $640.

Considering that $430 is roughly around LKR75,000, the Nubia Red Magic 3 is actually quite a good buy if you’re in the market for a good gaming phone. It packs flagship specifications and hardware. The only drawback is that we don’t know how good the cameras are. But if that’s not so important, the Nubia Red Magic 3 is definitely worth looking into.
