It was a normal, if slightly hotter Colombo evening and the Singer Mega in Mount Lavinia was packed with gamers and media personnel. This was Singer Sri Lanka announcing it’s launch of the PlayStation 4.
The event consisted of a short press conference with the unveiling followed by a tournament. The tournament consisted of 1v1 unranked matches of FIFA 14 and Mortal Combat X on the PlayStation 4.
The results of the Mortal Combat X tournament are as follows:
- Winner – Dulaj ‘ x3 | Stronghold’ Gunawardena
- Runner up – Mirsab ‘PnX|Paradoxx’ Hassan
The results of the Fifa 2015 tournament are as follows:
- Champion – Wesley ‘PnX|Wesley’ Mohamad
- Runners Up – Moin ‘PnX|Moin’ Altaf
- 3rd Place – Afdhal ‘PnX|Sharpshooter’ Muvaffik
A PS4 would have been an awesome prize but points for Singer Sri Lanka. They know how to organize an event for gamers.
Onto the elephant in the room
We reviewed the PlayStation 4 when it first arrived in Sri Lanka 2 years ago. Since it’s arrival, little has changed besides bigger hard drives. If you’re looking to buy a gaming console, it’s still a great choice. After this year’s E3 though, it’s rival the Xbox One has become an interesting choice as well. Selecting the better one among the two is another article for another day.
So how big a hole will your wallet have if you buy a PS4 from Singer? Well if you’re only after the PS4 itself with a free controller then it’s Rs. 79,990. Then there’s the bundle which will give you a PS4, 2 controllers, a copy of GTA V and FIFA 14, all of Rs. 120,000. As for the games, they’ll cost Rs. 14,000 each.

Out of curiosity, we decided to compare Singer’s prices with that of other companies selling PS4’s and games. The table below shows what we found.
Singer | Chelsey | Sieldes | Nastars
PS4 Console | Rs. 79,990 | Rs. 65,950 | – | Rs. 69,950 |
PS4 Games | Rs. 14,000 | Rs. 5,950 – Rs. 9,950 | Rs. 7, 965 (Duty Free store) | Rs. 9,950 |
Bundles | Rs. 120,000 (PS4 console + 2 controllers + 2 games) | Rs. 102,950 | Rs. 1,999 monthly at Colombo stores. | Rs. 89,950 (PS4 DriveClub bundle) |
Rs. 76, 815 and Rs. 90, 315 at Duty Free stores | Rs. 89,950 (PS4 Destiny bundle)
Rs. 94,950 (PS4 GTA V bundle) |
As you can see, Singer isn’t really singing a catchy tune here. It’s prices are significantly higher compared to it’s competitors in the market. However, Singer has something that it’s competitors don’t. Singer has a partnership with Sony.
A partnership with Sony that’s absolutely worthless, because it doesn’t seem to bring anything of value. No extended warranties. No official PlayStation Network content for Sri Lanka. Not even PlayStation Plus Membership cards for other regions. Absolutely nothing besides a fancy title for Singer.
We don’t need another reseller
We have enough of PlayStation resellers in Sri Lanka as it is. Many of whom are willing to sell the PS4 and games for it for a LOT less than what you are asking. We need a proper representative of the PlayStation brand. A proper representative that gets the latest games and accessories the exact moment they are released in other Asian countries.
