Samsung Sri Lanka hosted it’s full day colourful surprise event at Majectic City lobby area last Saturday, 6th of April 2013. Displaying a variety of Samsung phones, laptops and the gorgeous Galaxy Cameras, the organizers didn’t hesitate to entertain the eager audience with flashy mob dances. Amidst the organized chaos we quietly learnt that the next big thing from Samsung, the Galaxy S4 would land somewhere near Rs. 115,000/= range.
Here are some of the interesting products which were on display:
Galaxy Grand – Rs. 54,900/=
Announced in 2012 December, this device packs 480 x 800 pixels, 5.0 inches screen, running JellyBean v4.1.2 with nature UX, 8MP camera with face & smile detection and Geo tagging, Dual SIM, 1080p HD video recording at 30fps with stereo sound, 8GB inbuilt storage and micro SD slot.
The screen contrast and overall quality of the display wasn’t as expected, and we were told though it’s a dual SIM phone it has only 1 slot supporting 3G and 21.1 and 5.76 HSDPA.
GalaxyS Duos – Rs. 33,900/=
Announced back in July 2012, this mid-range priced smartphone packs 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inch screen, running Ice Cream Sandwich v4.0, 1 GHz ARM Cortex A5 processor, Adreno 200 GPU, Qualcomm MSM7227A chipset, 768MB of RAM available to the user, 4GB of internal storage, microSD slot, Dual SIM, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA support and Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support.
This looked like a Galaxy Ace Plus with a larger screen, getting a face lift from Galaxy S III. But indeed it’s a great upgrade for a decent price tag.
Galaxy NoteII – Rs. 99,900/=
Announced in August 2012, with an Exynos 4412 Quad and Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU, 720 x 1280 pixels, 5.5 inch screen, running JellyBean v4.1.1, upgradeable to v4.1.2 with TouchWiz UI, 8MP wide angel camera, 1080p HD video recording, 16/32GB internal storage, and a 3100 mAh battery.
Simply a gorgeous beast in you pocket!
Galaxy TabII – Rs. 54,900/=
Announced way back in February 2012, packs 600 x 1024 pixels, 7.0 inch screen, running Ice Cream Sandwich v4.0.3, upgradable to v4.1.1 JellyBean, 16M-colour PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen of WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600 pixels), 8/16/32GB of built-in memory, and 4000 mAh Li-Po rechargeable battery.
Unfortunately the battery is non replaceable, and it has no USB charging.
Galaxy S3 – Rs. 79,000/=
Announced in May 2012, this popular device packs 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.8 inch screen with Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colours, Ice Cream Sandwich v4.0.4, upgradeable to 4.1.2 JellyBean.
Not exactly a status symbol, but can handle more than an apple!
Samsung DV150F Dual-View Smart Camera – Rs. 21,000/=
At first glance you may notice a tiny front display, which makes it easy for self portraits. Built in WiFi makes photo sharing easier. The camera is not cyber-shot so might not perform too well on action clicks. The photos weren’t sharp enough on low lighting, but overall it looked a perfect companion for the shoot and share folks.
Samsung WB30F digital camera – Rs. 26,000/=
This beauty comes with a unique feature of connecting the camera to a smartphone directly over a WiFi network with a touch of a button at the rear. It has a 10x optical telephoto lens. The photos looked good compared to the rest of the models on display, and you can get this delivered to your doorstep from Takas.lk
Samsung ES95 digital camera – Rs. 14,000/=
Built with a 25mm wide-angle lens and Live Panorama, the ES95 also includes 16.2 megapixels and a bright F2.5 lens, 5X optical zoom lens and 1280 x 720p movie recording. Unfortunately this doesn’t come with the WiFi option. Also available for you to grab from Takas.lk
