If you recall, last year, we spoke about a programme called Seedstars. If you can’t recall it then no need to worry as we always refresh your memory when it comes to these types of things. Essentially, Seedstars is a global organization based in Switzerland that promotes, connects and invests up to $ 1 Million in startups in emerging markets. They are active in more than 50 countries across the world. Once again, they’re back in town, which means Seedstars Colombo 2017 is on the horizon.
What happened at Seedstars Colombo 2016
In June 2016, Seedstars World came to Colombo thanks to the organizing efforts of Startup Sri Lanka and also with the help of MAS and the ICTA. We saw an interesting number of startups take to the stage and present their products and compete for that oh, so attractive prize of $ 1Million. In the end, Seedstars Colombo 2016 concluded with Katha coming in third place, NicNac coming in second place the winners with a chance to represent Sri Lanka at the Regional and Global Summits of Seedstars being team LAYUP.
From there, almost one year later in April 2017, team LAYUP went on to represent Sri Lanka at the final round of Seedstars Summit 2017. From boot camps to one-on-one sessions, all participating teams received feedback and comments from judges and investors alike on how they can fine-tune their pitches, products and even placements. Ultimately, LayUp managed to put Sri Lanka on the map as they were among the top 10 global finalists, which was indeed quite an achievement.
