Square Mobile Founder Selected As Finalist For Youth Entrepreneurship Award

If you would recall, we ran a story about a small local development house born 4 years ago in Peradeniya University called Square Mobile. From developing apps for Etisalat’s App zone to apps for the travel industry and everything in between, this small startup and grown in leaps and bounds. Now they are adding another leaf to their laurel crown.

The Young Entrepreneur Awards, hosted by Youth Business International in partnership with Barclays, demonstrate the contributions that young entrepreneurs can make all around the world. In a proud moment for our dear motherland, Tharindu Dassanayake, Founder/CEO of Square Mobile has been chosen as one of the four finalists for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2016.

Initially held in 2006, the event has seen entrepreneurs from all over the world including Argentina, China, India, Kenya, Saudi Arabia and the UK.

In 2015 for example, the awards took place from the 8th to the 11th of March in the United Arab Emirates. This 4-day event gave the chance for young entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship experts and mentors from around the world to form links with UAE entrepreneurs, inspire young Emiratis and gain an understanding into Emirati entrepreneurship culture.

For 2016, the awards final will take place on 7 April in Kampala, Uganda as part of a larger event called The Promise of Youth. Sri Lanka represented by Tharindu Dassanayake will be one competitor among the many others from 48 countries around the world. We wish Tharindu all the best and for the odds to be ever in his favor.
