It’s that time of the year again. Once again, a long-awaited challenge is back for the fifth time. The Yarl Geek Challenge Season 5 has begun! In case you’re lost, the Yarl Geek Challenge is now a famous event in Jaffna is back. Organized by the Yarl IT Hub, it’s an event that’s become a stepping stone for budding entrepreneurs.
Every year, we’ve seen developers and entrepreneurs team up to challenge each other in building novel new ideas. But that’s not all. Once the competition ends, we’ve also seen them take their ideas and build businesses out of them. An example of such a case would be busseat.lk.
So how does it work?
The Yarl Geek Challenge Season 5 will have three stages. The first stage is simple yet challenging. You have to write about your idea and email it to the organizing committee. Afterward, they’ll look at your idea to see if it’s truly impressive.
If it passes the test, then you and your team will be selected to take part in the preliminary rounds. The preliminary rounds of the Yarl Geek Challenge Season 5, will be held at the HNB Auditorium in Jaffna. The preliminary rounds start on the 4th of November and will be happening until the 6th.
Over the course of these three days, you’ll need to build a prototype and convince the judges in a selection committee. It’s this selection committee that decides, which teams will go on to the next stage. If your team succeeds, then your team will advance to the Yarl Geek Challenge Season 5 Grand Finale. The finale will be happening in Colombo on the 19th of November.
What’s new with the Yarl Geek Challenge Season 5?
The competition is in it’s 5 iteration now. In the world of tech, that means it’s ancient.
So what changes are the organizers bringing in, for the Yarl Geek Challenge Season 5? Well, there’s quite a few key but valuable changes for the teams. These changes are:
- Special training and mentoring on presentation skills. This is arguably the most valuable session. Why? Because then you’ll know how to give a killer pitch about your idea.
- Technical assistance for development. So if you’re stuck in building your prototype, don’t worry. The organizers will be there to help you out.
- Advice on selecting the best path to launch a business. If you choose to convert your idea into a startup after the competition, the organizers are there to help you out with that too.
- More investors. If you don’t walk away with their money, you’ll at least walk away with valuable feedback. With this feedback, you’ll know how to come back and take their money.
