Don’t you just hate it when you’re watching a video on YouTube on your smartphone and you can’t exactly pinpoint a favorite part of it or you want to skip ahead but you’re also afraid you’ll miss something interesting?
The struggle is indeed real. Most of the time you’ll either move the video slider too much or too little thus resulting in you having to constantly move back and forth to get to the interesting bit. Well that’s about to change.
In the most recent update of YouTube’s mobile app, you can actually skip 10 seconds forward or backward in a video. All you need to do is simply double tap the right or left edge of your phone’s screen.
This is the perfect situation where you want a quick replay of something really exciting or funny or if you just want to skip the boring portion of a video, rather than drag the slider back and forth. The situation gets trickier if you are in hurry.
If 10 seconds isn’t your thing, you can also skip in 20 and 30 second intervals as well. This can be done via multiple taps, but can take a bit of getting used to at first. For now, I think it’s advisable just to stick to 10 second intervals. With any luck, the development team for YouTube would incorporate a method for longer skips, but this is something.
In case you were wondering, YouTube on the browser has a skip feature too. Albeit it being 5 second intervals. All you need to do is tap the left or right arrows while the video plays.
